You’re probably the type who loves to tread new ground. You’re great at starting new things and chasing new ideas, to the point that you may not finish a lot of what you start (sometimes to the annoyance of those around you!). When people are on you to finish something, it’s draining.
For you rules or established paths of doing something are really only suggestions. If you can imagine a better, easier, or more logical way, you’ve got no problem doing it your way.
The truth is that you were created to start new things, open up new territory, or pioneer new efforts. That part of your motivation is from God. The Bible calls this “apostolic.” The word “apostolic” means “sent”—as if God sends you into new places, projects, and opportunities, reflecting a perfect love that overcomes fear of the unknown.
All along, that driving force that leads your sense of adventure and inventiveness is from God. It’s a God-given gift you’ve been using all your life, and there’s more to it. While we use our gifts in everyday life, God’s purpose is for us to use them for him, and there’s nothing more fulfilling.
Consider this—if God created you with a gift that drives your motivations, and if that gift is ultimately meant for use in the work God is doing around you, this means two things—
1. Using your gift in the work God is doing around you is the most fulfilling experience you can have because it means doing what you were created to do and….
2. Using your gift in the work God is doing around you is easy because it’s what comes natural for you anyway.
There aren’t any special requirements or hoops to jump through to begin to use your apostolic gift for God. In fact, it’s something you just start doing as you learn and grow……
