Our Mission
The mission of the Prince of Peace Church is to equip each other to fulfill the hopes and dreams God has already written on our hearts. We do this by:
- Worshiping God together each Sunday
- Proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ
- Creating a nourishing Christian community of worship where Christ’s love is experienced and taken beyond its walls.
- Bringing the love of God to others
- Building a faith community where we are equipped to fulfill our God given hopes and dreams
- Passing on to our children the faith and hope that we have received
- Encourage each other to grow and prosper in the life God has given us in Jesus Christ
- Advancing the role of the Episcopal Church as an active participant in sharing the Gospel
Our Ethos
The ethos of Prince of Peace is the motivation of all of our work. It is to work together to extend the model of the Kingdom of God on earth by living out a lifestyle of love, truth, justice, mercy and forgiveness, according to the teachings of Jesus. We are inspired by his message, his life and his example, through which God has expressed his unconditional love for all people. Our ethos is given life through our relationships. The way we work together and the way we behave with one another and those we seek to serve, demonstrates and authenticates our ethos. Our ethos, our motivation, and therefore our relationships, are rooted in our faith in Jesus Christ and in his love which compels us to serve others and to seek good for individuals, for the community and for the world we inhabit. Our faith directs and influences our internal relationships as well as our work with those whom Prince of Peace Church seeks to serve. Our activities are essentially an outworking of our Christian faith. The link between who we are and what we do cannot be broken.
Our Values
The Perfect Love of God
God loves each of us more than you know. He knows our innermost thoughts, plans, hopes and dreams within us, and comes running after us. He loves us perfectly and provides healing and restoration to each of us.
Responsiveness to the Holy Spirit
The organizing principle of day-to-day Christian living is to respond to the Holy Spirit. He will give us gifts for any situation, and lead us into the places and relationships He chooses for ministry. We believe the gifts of the Holy Spirit are given for each situation and are not the permanent possession of any Christian. He will distribute ministries and offices to His people by consistently giving the same gift to individuals. Those individuals may still be given any of the gifts of the Holy Spirit at any time “as the Spirit wills”. To know His voice and how He operates are the skills necessary to respond to Him however He leads.
The Word of God
The Bible is the written Word of God and contains all things necessary for salvation and living the Christian life. In reading of God’s encounters with His people in the Bible, we come to understand more deeply His encounters with us. We encounter God through the Bible by reading, meditation, and practicing what we learn. We are transformed by the Bible as we read it and practice it. We believe Biblical Christians know and do what the Bible says.
Individuals
We value and respect the dignity of every human being. We believe all people are created in the image of God. Ministry is offered to people taking into full account their unique situations and personality. Individuals are ultimately responsible for their growth and integration into the fellowship. People draw their identity and value from the love of God and their relationships in the fellowship, not from their gifts and functions. We motivate people by gratitude, encourage obedience by love, and invite maturity by taking responsibility and being accountable. We respect people’s wishes and so not seek to manipulate anyone into doing or receiving ministry they do not want.
Relationships
The Christian Faith is a way of relating in love to God and to people around us. It is in relationships that we develop our identity. We come to know others and are fully known ourselves through open, honest relationships. Ministry to the world flows out of the depth of community we have with each other and with the Lord. It is through the quality of our relationships that we grow and are equipped and empowered to follow Jesus to the kingdom of God. The church is the community that receives and extends the kingdom of God throughout the earth. For that reason our mission is to develop growing disciples of Jesus Christ who can be of service to the Lord in extending His kingdom. A disciple of Jesus will do the same things that Jesus did.
Our Priorities
Worship
Because of God’s immeasurable love for us, and because He deserves all glory and honor our first priority is to worship Him with all of our heart, mind, soul and strength. We will prepare to grow as those who worship God from the heart.
Training
Because we value relationships and the extension of God’s kingdom our priority is to train and encourage people for every and any task or ministry that are connected to the life of the church.
Communication
Because we value relationships our priority is to meet regularly to encourage and share with one another, welcome new friends into our life, and to keep all the matters of this faith community out in the open.
