History

In September of 2005, The Rev. John Maher Jr. answered a call to the Diocese of Arizona to plant a church in the northern section of Peoria. The call to plant this church is a part of the larger vision of The Rt. Rev. Kirk Smith, Bishop of Arizona.

Bishop Smith is leading the diocese from a habit of maintenance to a focus on mission. A part of that vision is to plant ten new churches in the Diocese of Arizona in the next ten years. Prince of Peace, Peoria is the first of those ten new churches.

Prince of Peace has been meeting for worship on Sundays for the last two and a half years at the West Wing Elementary School.  During this time the first Episcopal worship services, the first baptisms in an Episcopal church, and the first Episcopal confirmations to be done in Peoria were performed at Prince of Peace.  On April 5, 2009 the fellowship began meeting for Sunday worship at an office suite used by Copper Hills Community Church during the week located at 21448 N. 75th Ave, Glendale, AZ  85308.  This ecumenical relationship is a rich and important part of the ministry of Prince of Peace.
